6 Quirky Ways To Get A Better Smile That You Want To Show Off More!

White teethThere’s a lot on our blog about improving your smile with various tips and treatments. We like to write about those topics because we are highly experienced in our field here at Abbey Road Dental, and we want to ensure our patients get the latest, useful information.

Today, we wanted to provide you with some handy tips that might be a little more of a surprise. Quirky tips that could help you get a better smile, and that could help you smile more often too. Who knows, something strange could be exactly what you need to get that grin ship shape!

Here are 6 quirky ways to get a better smile that you want to show off more:

1. Plant Power

Going vegan probably isn’t the way to get a better smile, but eating more veggies and fruits is definitely great for your mouth. Not eating enough fruits and veggies is actually a proven risk factor when it comes to how likely you are to get oral cancers. Whilst you’re at it, you might want to get munching on some cruciferous vegetables or crunchy vegetables, like kale, carrots and celery. Not only are they jam-packed full of vitamins and minerals but they can help to naturally clean your teeth just through the action of chewing. That in turn creates more saliva which also helps clean the teeth.

2. Fake It Till You Make It

Faking a smile can actually help you to look better, and might even help you want to smile. Of course a real smile is preferable, but why not get a head start with a faux grin? Faking it until you make it has some real benefits. Here are some top tips to help you fake a smile:

  • Close your eyes and turn the corners of your mouth up, then when it is time to take a photo, open your eyes and it will look less forced
  • Focus your attention on your nose which will likely result in you raising it slightly, holding your chin up and letting your lips just drop open naturally
  • Smile without your teeth, holding your tongue to the roof of your mouth
  • Start saying HAHAHAHA – this will likely start you off laughing and your smile will be much more natural
  • Take a picture with a pet, they always do something funny to cause a smile!
  • Look at somebody you really love in a picture frame or video, which will help to trigger happy memories and you’ll be smiling before you know it

We definitely suggest all our NW8 patients try the above tips in private first!

3. Naturally Brighten Your Teeth

You can of course have professional whitening at Abbey Road Dental, either in-clinic or with our at-home system. However, if you just want to brighten up your smile then there are some really simple ways to do that. Eating strawberries and apples can naturally clean up your teeth because the fruits contain acid.

Of course eating lots and lots of acid will damage the enamel on your teeth and we don’t recommend eating a diet heavy with acidic fruits. However, replacing chocolate or cake for dessert with some strawberries could be a really delicious way to help brighten your smile just that little bit.

4. Enhance Your Lips & Face

Sometimes your smile looks really great but you perhaps don’t feel confident with the rest? Often patients might invest in teeth whitening and restoration but that change then highlights other areas they may wish to improve. Enhancing your lips and the face, perhaps with a bold new lipstick could do the trick, or maybe some new skincare products that freshen up your complexion.

If you struggle with wrinkles and other issues that you feel cause your confidence to suffer to a large degree, perhaps facial aesthetics is something to consider. This can enhance your lips and even help to rejuvenate the appearance of your entire face. Perhaps if your confidence in your appearance is revived beyond your teeth, you’ll feel happier and more inclined to smile.

Do the issues run beyond your looks perhaps? If so, then it’s time to invest in your mental wellbeing and speak to your GP about how you feel.

5. What About Smizing?

Maybe you don’t want to smile with your teeth at all. If that is the case, why not try smizing? Made famous by Tyra Banks, smizing is where you smile with your eyes and your lips don’t even move. You simply smile with your eyes. No really, it’s a real thing! Look it up online and give it a shot next time you don’t want to bare those pearly whites; at the very least trying it out will probably give you a bit of a giggle.

6. Exercise For Natural Good Vibes

Exercising is a phenomenal way to boost your feelings and your looks, so your smile has a lot to gain from you moving more.

Physically, the blood flow is boosted to the mouth and gums, creating a stronger foundation for the teeth. Your immune system is also boosted which makes you more able to fight off dental issues like gum disease.

Exercising is also known to cause ‘feel-good’ hormones, which naturally make you feel great, and make you want to smile. As if all of that wasn’t enough, exercising can also strengthen your body, help you lose weight and enhance your muscles, potentially boosting your self esteem and giving you yet another reason to smile!
