Family with kidsOur local team in St John’s Wood has a reputation for offering excellent cosmetic dentistry treatments such as teeth whitening, veneers and adult teeth straightening. This is how you may have heard of us, but did you know that we are also a family dentist?

The latest cosmetic dentistry techniques are a core part of our services, but at our heart we are also a family dentist. We take pride in offering a broad range of  high-quality dental treatments and services for the entire family, from pregnancy right through to implant-supported dentures for the elderly.

If you’re thinking of joining a new family dental clinic in the NW8 area, Abbey Road Dental should be at the top of your list. Here’s an overview of the wide range of family dentistry offered here in Abbey Road:

Thorough Examinations For All The Family

Oral check-ups are incredibly important when it comes to preventing common dental issues like decay and gum disease. Regular checkups also allow us to look for any signs of these issues, acting quickly on any signs and symptoms.

Doing this, and checking any existing restorations, means that we can help you to avoid any lengthy treatment plans moving forward. We also check for signs of oral cancer as standard, so that should there be any issues, you have the best possible chance of a positive outcome because of early identification.

Oral Care During Pregnancy

During pregnancy you can be prone to a range of dental issues because of the way that your body changes. Pregnancy gingivitis, morning sickness and cravings can all have an impact on your teeth and gums. We can provide extra support and guidance during this time so that your oral health remains in great condition as you focus on your pregnancy.

We can also act in advance of you trying for a baby if you let us know. Some treatments you cannot have during pregnancy, like X-rays. So, if you do have dental issues or work planned, letting us know before you start your baby plans means we can provide that treatment before you become pregnant.

Baby’s First Appointment

A baby’s first appointment is so important because it will impact how they feel coming back to us regularly in future. We’re so passionate about making sure that their experience with us is a good one!

Our staff are highly trained and have many techniques and methods they apply to help very young patients feel at ease during their first tooth exam, but also that they have fun too. Moving forward, this is instrumental in helping your baby grow and learn to feel positively about their oral health.

General Dentistry Treatments

We offer a complete range of general dentistry treatments to help you maintain your smile health and appearance. Inlays and onlays, root canal, diagnostics, crowns, bridges and fillings are all standard treatments that we offer at Abbey Road Dental.

We are also proud to offer white fillings at our NW8 clinic as part of the general dentistry service. Amalgam fillings are declared safe by the British Dental Association but many of our patients prefer to opt for white fillings, which are more aesthetically pleasing and do not contain any mercury. You can read more about amalgam and white fillings here.

Friendly Children’s Dentistry

From first tooth to adult teeth, a lot happens to a child’s teeth and gums which is why we are so committed to supporting them through these formative years. Diana, our lead dentist, takes pride in building a relationship with the children that she treats. The children can explore the environment (in a safe way), ask her questions, sit in the chair and they can be shown the equipment (safely) before being examined. Each child even gets a goodie bag with their first visit.

This kind of support ensures that the smile is able to develop properly, with any issues being quickly identified and the appropriate treatment plan applied. It also means that children feel really positive about their oral health whilst they learn about how to care for their teeth and gums themselves. Many feel calm and even excited to come in to see us during their routine dental appointments in St John’s Wood.

Implant Supported Dentures

Here at Abbey Road Dental we know that you don’t need to struggle with uncomfortable dentures that can move and rub. We offer implant-supported dentures using the latest missing tooth replacement technology. An implant is the closest thing that we have to a tooth root when it comes to replacing a natural tooth. Dentures only replace the tooth above the gum which is why they are not solid and can move and rub, affecting your confidence, diet and speech. Another problem is that the jawbone where the natural teeth used to be will slowly disappear, changing your face shape and creating a need for regular denture replacement.

Unlike dentures, once the implant has been placed and it has bonded and settled into place, it is completely secure. The beautiful, strong dentures attached to the implants do the same as natural teeth, providing a strong and aesthetically pleasing smile enabling you to eat, speak and laugh again with confidence!

Gum Disease Treatment

Gum disease is prevalent in the UK and we are always working hard to help prevent and treat it. We do this with regular checkups, hygienist appointments and more detailed periodontal support in the event of pregnancy gingivitis or more advanced gum disease. In its early stages, gum disease can be often completely reversed and/or managed. The key is to diagnose it early, which is why we always check for symptoms and we recommend that you always speak to us if you have any common gum disease signs and symptoms such as:

  • Inflamed gums
  • Sore gums
  • Receding gums
  • Gums that bleed when you brush
  • Teeth that move
  • Increased sensitivity of the teeth (this can be because of receding gums)
