Your Routine Checkup At Abbey Road Dental

What you should expect….

We are blessed with lots of wonderful long-term patients at our family friendly practice in NW8, but we also have lots of new members joining us throughout the year too.

Because of this continual mix of patients who have different levels of experience with us, we thought it would be a great idea to talk about what happens at a routine checkup at Abbey Road Dental.

Walking In

Walking in to our reception you will always be greeted with fresh, modern decor and a bright, happy environment. You will also be greeted by our extremely friendly patient coordinator Debbie Gale, who prides herself on giving patients a reason to smile before they have even been in to see the dentist.

During The Appointment

All of our staff are highly trained and have an extremely calm and sympathetic approach to patients, so if you are a bit jittery about visiting the dentist, our staff know how to put you at ease quickly. If visiting the dentist is a true phobia for you, please don’t hesitate to call our NW8 clinic about this as we truly do understand and have special things we can do to help.

If you’re in for a first appointment with us you can expect us to take x rays, intra-oral photos and to complete a thorough assessment of your teeth and gums. We also screen for oral cancer, a full medical and dental history review, and we answer any questions you may have.

Following this initial visit we recommend a treatment plan to be followed over the year. Regardless of what you are having done, you would have a checkup as often as has been recommended for your individual circumstances.

Your checkup will be tailored to your needs, so it may involve checking prior cosmetic or general dental work, oral diseases/issues and monitoring certain conditions.

The point of this appointment is to check everything is as it should be, so if something isn’t right we can diagnose it and discuss a treatment plan with you. It also provides you with the opportunity to discuss any oral issues you are worried about, to enquire about any cosmetic dentistry you are interested in, or to update us on any new issues or medications you need to talk to us about.

Hygienist

As well as your dental checkups you will have regular hygiene appointments as well. You will have an initial hygienist assessment, then you will have a recommended amount of visits to follow throughout the year. Your hygiene appointments are extremely important as your hygienist will help you avoid gum disease, show you how to manage your oral health routine effectively, give your teeth a scale and polish and provide oral care education too.

Why Are Regular Check Ups Important?

Visiting our St John’s clinic in NW8 regularly is so important. Over 95% of the population get gum disease at some point, which is the leading cause of tooth loss in the UK. The teeth can also be affected by habits, diets, medical conditions, injury and the natural ageing process. You might also want to investigate cosmetic dentistry, or you might have a specialist condition that needs monitoring. So there is every reason for you to get an expert examination of your teeth with us regularly. Your teeth need to be healthy to keep you confident, to keep you eating properly, speaking properly and to keep you from being in pain. Seeing us regularly ensures your teeth stay as strong and beautiful as possible.
