Helping you to keep smiling!

Smiling peopleWhilst we continue to try and support our lovely patients safely, and remotely, we wanted to give you something to smile about.

We have found that one of the positives to come out of an awful situation, has been hope and human kindness. Stories of hope and human kindness across the globe remind us all that, it isn’t all bad. The news is scary and the situation, a daily unknown. But human kindness and hope is all around is, which is something amazing to hold on to.

To help you smile today, we wanted to retell some of these incredible stories of kindness across the globe here on our blog. Make a brew, take a moment, turn the news off, and enjoy some of these beautiful stories of people doing great things during a time of crisis:

Worldwide Healthcare Workers Applause

Those on the very front line of this crisis, are those working tirelessly in the most dangerous places of all, the hospitals, doctors surgeries and emergency dental centres. These people are exposing themselves daily to potential infection, many, separating themselves from their family members in order to help patients.

In a display of solidarity, appreciation and support, many countries have applauded their healthcare workers at a planned time, from their windows and doorsteps.

In the UK, we too clapped for our healthcare workers on the doorstep. Cities, towns and villages across the country were filled with applause and appreciation, letting those on the frontline know that we appreciate all they are doing.

A Paramedic Gets An Applause From Her Neighbours

Half A Million Sign Up To Be NHS Volunteers

The NHS started a scheme where the public could apply to be volunteers. The volunteers will safely take members of the public to hospital appointments, pick up prescriptions or even just call people who are lonely during isolation. This takes a huge weight from doctors busy dealing with emergencies.

They asked for 250,000 people to volunteer and over half a million people responded. The response was so huge, because so many people signed up to help others.

A Lady In Falmouth Started A Caring Trend

Right at the beginning of self isolation rules, a lady in Falmouth decided to let her neighbours know she was there to help. She designed a simple letter that let the neighbours know who she is, her number and how she could help them. The letter went viral, and neighbourhoods across the country copied the trend.

Kids Send Letters To Those Who Are Unwell

Children across the country have been drawing and writing letters to send to those who are unwell in hospital with the virus.

People Cover Their Windows In Rainbows

In a show of solidarity and positivity, households across the country are adorning their windows with rainbows. The rainbows are to represent hope, something we can all do with more of.

Airbnb Provides Emergency Housing Support

Lots of frontline responders are being left without anywhere to live, as they distance themselves from their family to continue to help those unwell in hospital. Airbnb has helped by providing emergency housing to 100,000 responders.

A 102 Year Old Lady Recovers From The Virus

A lady of the ripe old age of 102 spent 20 days in hospital with COVID-19 and recovered, providing a whole heap of hope for the elderly and frail facing this uncertain time.

Spider-Man In Stockport

Spider-Man in Stockport is an anonymous figure who has been popping up to visit different neighbourhoods to cheer children up who are in isolation. The kids can see him from their windows as he appears to say high, and give them a bit of happiness during a difficult time.

You may not always have a comfortable life, and you will not always be able to solve all of the world’s problems at once. But don’t ever underestimate the importance you can have, because history has shown us that courage can be contagious and hope can take on a life of its own.” – Michelle Obama
