Crowns Bridges in St John’s Wood

Crowns and Bridges at Abbey Road Dental in St John's Wood NW8

Restorative Dentistry

Restorative dentistry is the management of oral health and the aesthetic appearance of our teeth. Dr David Bloom is an expert in restorative dentistry and in the video he explains the many options to restore or replace teeth.

These range from the use of simple fillings for small amounts of decay, inlays & onlays or dental crowns for more extensive damage. Dr Bloom also describes how bridges and dental implants can be used to replace missing teeth.

Crowns are used to reinforce teeth.

Crowns are used to reinforce teeth.

Teeth that have been broken beyond filling or that have been root filled will often benefit from a crown or “cap”.

The tooth is prepared for the crown to completely cover the tooth and restore it to its original shape and size making it healthier and stronger

Bridges are used to replace missing teeth.

A bridge is held in place by cementing crowns over the teeth either side of the gap being filled. To facilitate this it is sometimes necessary to remove healthy tooth structure from the teeth to be crowned. If these teeth are heavily filled and would benefit from crowning/reinforcing a bridge is suitable.

If the teeth being crowned are virgin teeth this can be very destructive of tooth tissue and an implant should be considered.
